Home Solar Panel System - The Citizenrē Corporation

Writing by Chris on Monday, 12 of February , 2007 at 11:38 pm

I thought this was interesting.  The company installs solar panels on your house, and just charges you for the power you use, at the same rate as your local power company.  If you sign a long term contract, and your power company ups their price, you stay locked in at the old rate for your solar array.

In a nutshell, our FRA allows you to rent a REnU based upon the amount of electricity it generates for you: you no longer have to make a huge investment in the solar power equipment. And since the REnU’s fuel supply (sunlight) is free and very little maintenance is required throughout its life, Citizenrē will rent this to you at a fixed-rate for what ever contract period you sign-up for. The fixed-rate is equal to your utility’s retail electricity rate at the time of signing an FRA.

Update: Got some feedback about these guys in the comments.  It sounds like these guys aren’t as big a deal as they seem.  Disapointing.

CitizenRe currently has no systems installed. They publicly state that
they will not install any until September 2007 (date may have changed
in the last few days). However, they also do not have a manufacturing
plant (no date for ground breaking either), they have actually not
raised the $650 million of capital they refer to, and their projected
numbers of systems to be installed versus projected manufacturing
capacity do not add up.
