The Nice Guy Paradox [Solved]

Writing by Chris on Monday, 30 of July , 2007 at 1:03 pm

This makes perfect sense to me.

Women like when guys are nice to them, but only when they don’t have to be.

Think about that. Most guys exclusively using the “nice” approach are doormats, and many are so because that’s all they can be. They lack the attributes to attract a woman based on pure gravity (physical size/strength/prowess, ambition, sexuality, intelligence, money, etc.). As a result, these guys are essentially forced to grovel to attract a mate, which is patently unattractive.

An Interview with Joe Rogan

Writing by Chris on Monday, 30 of July , 2007 at 8:49 am

People know Joe Rogan from News Radio, Fear Factor, and the Man Show, but none of those showcase what you see when he does standup. I really recommend going an checking out his stuff. Everything from Lion Sex to the building of the pyramids is funny when he does it.

Psychedelic drugs and chemicals certainly seem to be an area of interest. You name-drop Oxytocin in your act, and your detailed discussion of DMT is a kind of web classic. Any other drugs our young readers should be trying to get their hands on?

There’s a fascinating theory by Terrence McKenna. He believes that human evolution was accelerated by the consumption of psilocybyin [psychedelic] mushrooms. When the rainforest receded into grassland in Africa a million years ago, the hominids came out of the trees and started looking for other food sources. If you look at primates in Africa, they’re always flipping over cow dung to find beetle grubs, and these mushrooms grow on cow dung.

And if you ate these mushrooms, they would do a bunch of pretty interesting things that would tend to accelerate evolution. In low doses, mushrooms actually increase visual acuity, which makes you better hunter. They also make you hornier and give you consciousness-expanding experiences. It kills the ego, and it makes you look at life from an enhanced and much more objective perspective. Those things alone, point to one of the possible reasons the human brain doubled in size over a period of two million years. Which is the biggest mystery in the entire fossil record. The doubling in size of an organ over the period of two million years.

Pimp My Card: How to Skin Your Student Credit Card

Writing by Chris on Sunday, 29 of July , 2007 at 12:30 pm

I’m way too lazy to do this, but its cool.

I think you’ll agree that skinning a credit card with your own design is quite possibly the coolest thing ever, especially when the design is skin. This example (and the step-by-step instructions below) come courtesy of the brilliant Jeffrey Rutzky, who also designed the ZUG book PRANK THE MONKEY. Here’s how you do it.

DNS tunneling service - How to beat a captive portal

Writing by Chris on Wednesday, 25 of July , 2007 at 8:20 pm

OK, I don’t see myself actually doing this, but its a cool idea.

Did you ever sit at the airport or at a cafe and there was a unencrypted wireless access point nearby, but whenever you wanted to visit a site their website would pop up asking for a fee to use the internet through their AccessPoint (aka. Captive Portal)?

Well, I did, several times. But in most cases you are able to look up arbitrary hostnames, ie. google.com. That is because if you cannot resolve a host name your browser won’t display any site. So these providers usually allow to look up hostnames to then filter whether they are allowed to access the site or not. In the latter case, their pay-to-get-access site pops up.

But you can use the fact that you can resolve arbitrary hostnames to gain
free connection to the internet. Not a very fast one, though, but
still a free internet connection.

…
Each seat offers audio and video on-demand and a video screen for viewing more than 150 hours of movies and TV programs. At 15.4 inches, the video screen is three times larger than United’s previous business class monitor and better equipped to display video games, children’s programming, audio books and other learning programs. The new international United Business seating will offer 20 channels of stored XM-branded audio. Guests can also create customized playlists using 30 channels of other stored audio. Password vulnerability in Firefox 2.0.0.5

Writing by Chris on Monday, 23 of July , 2007 at 9:26 pm

No one gets the passwords for all the pay sites I had to PAY for!

According to a message posted over the weekend on the Full-Disclosure mailing list, the latest version of Firefox, 2.0.0.5, contains a password management vulnerability that can allow malicious Web sites to steal user passwords. If you have JavaScript enabled and allow Firefox to remember your passwords, you are at risk from this flaw.

The Green Hornet (Le Frelon Vert)

Writing by Chris on Monday, 23 of July , 2007 at 8:54 pm

I’d watch a full length movie of this. Of course I enjoyed The Shadow and The Phantom, not to mention, Buck Rodgers, so I am not necessarily the one to ask.

From the "Green Hornet" short film

Friday’s news that Knocked Up actor Seth Rogen will write, and likely star in, The Green Hornet movie left a lot of fans wringing their hands. So, this gritty and well-choreographed French Green Hornet short film — don’t worry, it’s in English — will either make them momentarily happy, or leave them longing for what might’ve been.

2008 Presidential Election Candidates on the Issues

Writing by Chris on Saturday, 21 of July , 2007 at 12:08 pm

Interesting quick issues chart.

The following is a general guideline to the candidates’ positions on some of the top issues. Some of the issues are more complex and usually require more than a ‘yes/no’ or ’support/oppose’ position. Please visit the official campaign site of the candidate in question for more details about each issue.

About Me

This is it. I'm not looking to become an Internet star, or buy a house off by adsense moneyz. Though I am willing to go with the flow on either.

You may have noticed that I am not a graphic designer. Or a real programmer. Or race car driver, though that may not be as obvious from the site itself. I apologize for any mistakes, ommisions, or eye gouging graphics choices I may have perpetrated on anyone through ths page
