Mozy.com

Writing by Chris on Friday, 30 of June , 2006 at 11:23 pm

Right now I am trying out Mozy.com for an automated backup solution.  So far I like the interface, and the software seems to be working pretty well.  I’ll try it for a week or so and post back for anyone that cares.

We believe:

  • You shouldn’t have to think about backup.

Backup should be set up once, and then work automagically.

  • Your files should be encrypted.

Your backup files should be encrypted and stored in a secure, remote location that’s only accessible to you - from anywhere.

  • Your backups should be smart.

Your backup system should be smart enough to only backup data that’s not already been backed up, only backup parts of a file that have changed, and be able to backup open and locked files.

Box.net

Writing by Chris on Friday, 30 of June , 2006 at 11:09 pm

I’ve been playing around a little more with Box.net, and its really pretty useful.  I was just using it like a 1GB Net Thumb Drive.  It has a nice clean interface for uploading files.  It offeres a pretty good drag and drop Java uploader if you want.  And it lets you map a WebDav drive if you prefer.  What I hadn’t tried, and am finding nice, is the sharing ability.  You can mark a file to be shared and it will generate a publically accessable link to that file, with our without a password.  Its a nice way to handle sending large files out by email.

Equality Onboard: ‘Serenity’ Fans Unite for Benefit Screenings

Writing by Chris on Thursday, 29 of June , 2006 at 8:51 pm

I’m seeing more and more geeky charity stories, and it warms my heart.  The speech Joss is both interesting and funny too.  He answers the question "Why do you right such strong women characters" a bunch of times, and answers it well.

This weekend ‘Serenity’ fans in over 47 cities in the United States, Canada, England, Australia and New Zealand organized screenings of the film on creator Joss Whedon’s birthday (June 23rd) to raise nearly $50,000 for Whedon’s favorite charity Equality Now.

‘Jackie Chan looks to bequeath half of wealth’

Writing by Chris on Thursday, 29 of June , 2006 at 8:39 pm

I love his older movies, and liked his newer stuff like Rush Hour and Shanghai Noon well enough, but he seems to be done now. You can only make ‘Around the World…’ and ‘The Jacket’ before I assume you are just collecting paychecks. Good for him for doing something with that money.

Hong Kong action movie star Jackie Chan is looking to bequeath half his fortune to charity, following in the footsteps of Warren Buffet and Bill Gates, local media reported on Thursday.

Comic Book Lover

Writing by Chris on Thursday, 29 of June , 2006 at 8:35 pm

I buy 99% of my comics, but I admit I occasionally go for a download of a backissue I missed, or to see if something new is worth the money.  I usually use CDisplay on the PC for reading comics, but I saw a cool program for the Mac that I might have to try.  The actually reading of the comics probably isn’t difference, but the library browser is a nice feature.  It lets you browse the files by the cover.

40 Years of the X-Men Collector’s Edition Win/Mac [DVD]

Writing by Chris on Thursday, 29 of June , 2006 at 8:19 pm

Two things wrong with this.

  1. Its in PDF format.  CBR or CBZ would have been much more readable on your computer.  From the description you would almost have to print these to make them readable.
  2. No crossovers in the 80s.  As several people point out, you don’t get any X-Factor/New Mutants/etc., so when you hit events that crossed over into those other books you lose big chunks of the story.

Over 485 complete printable comics, cover to cover, that’s over 17,500 pages.
All X-MEN comic books from September 1963 through August 2005, including debut issue.

Giant Red October Typhoon sub surfaces near public beach

Writing by Chris on Thursday, 29 of June , 2006 at 8:13 pm

Somewhere between badass and scary as hell.  The digg article is safe, but there are some NWS ads on the site with the pics.

A few cool photos of a Typhoon (941 Akula) sub, the largest ever built, as it made a pass near a beach. When you look at the photo, just think of the 20 ICBMs it’s carrying onboard. That’s 10 nuclear warheads per ICBM, 200 total! Those beachgoers have no idea of what’s sailing by them.

Woman auctions herself with her Ferrari

Writing by Chris on Thursday, 29 of June , 2006 at 7:56 pm

I think that is the perfect way to attract a new suga daddy.  Take what you where able to get away from the last one with, and use it as a lure for a new rich guy.

"Only a millionaire could afford such a car," said the woman, who gave her name as Leila and said she once worked as a singer in
Syria. "I want a man who doesn’t like me just for my money."

Calling All MySpace Members! See Your Name in Lights!

Writing by Chris on Thursday, 29 of June , 2006 at 7:43 pm

I don’t think I am sitting through the Clerks II trailer to see if there is a secret ending.

The Weinstein Company announced today that beginning tomorrow, Friday June 30, 2006, MySpace members will have the chance to have their names permanently listed in the ending credits of the highly anticipated release of "Clerks II." The first 10,000 people to add the "Mooby’s Presents: Clerks II" page to their friends list will automatically be permanently added to the ending credits of the film, both in theaters and on DVD.

About Me

This is it. I'm not looking to become an Internet star, or buy a house off by adsense moneyz. Though I am willing to go with the flow on either.

You may have noticed that I am not a graphic designer. Or a real programmer. Or race car driver, though that may not be as obvious from the site itself. I apologize for any mistakes, ommisions, or eye gouging graphics choices I may have perpetrated on anyone through ths page
